Patrick Michael Moore

Patrick Michael Moore was born on 5/5/1959 in San Rafael, CA and passed away on 7/30/2016. His birth mother was Joan Talamantez but he was adopted by his loving Mother and Father Elizabeth Anne Moore and Leslie Ray Moore. He grew up the oldest brother to Timothy and Kelly Moore. He began his life in San Rafael and then moved to Napa, CA with his family where he lived on a vineyard. His father Leslie passed away when Pat was only 6 years old and he became the man of the house. He and the rest of his family moved to Washington State and then to Oregon, but eventually settled in Santa Rosa, CA. Pat was an accomplished athlete and he excelled in soccer, football, baseball, track & field and basketball. He was also an avid runner, having completed 3 full marathons. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life and lived a life full of love and service. After lettering in soccer, basketball, track and field and graduating in 1977 from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, CA, Pat made the decision to serve a two-year church mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Munich, Germany Mission from 1978-1980. He learned to speak fluent German as he taught about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He often spoke of his mission as two of the most formative years of his life. He fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Dyanna Miles and they would eventually be married in 1981 in the Oakland, CA temple. Pat continued to excel in soccer for Santa Rosa Junior College and then received a scholarship to play soccer for Brigham Young University in Utah. He and his wife had 7 children, 6 boys and 1 girl: Brandon Miles Moore, Kyle Miles Moore, Tanner Miles Moore, Logan Miles Moore, Jensen Miles Moore, Hunter Miles Moore, and Savannah Moore. Patrick graduated with a degree in Family Finance from BYU in 1986 at which point he had 4 children including a set of twins. He was an entrepreneur at heart with confidence in himself and his business ventures. He owned his own car striping business while he was in college, then built custom homes, and started a commercial water feature management company in San Diego, CA. He and Dyanna settled in San Marcos, CA where they bought a home with room to grow. Pat was very successful in his business venture with Waterworks Industries, but his real passion was for his family. Instead of expanding his business for recognition and praise from his peers, he decided to work 2-3 days a week and spend the rest of the time with his wife and children. He wanted a home that his kids enjoyed so he used his skill as a contractor to work alongside and teach his twins how to remodel a home. Pat taught all of his children to work hard through sports and through his Waterworks business. He was always teaching his children whenever an opportunity arose. Lessons on how to "finish" and how to "make your teammate look good" were favorites of his. "Don't make excuses, make adjustments" was another favorite quote taken from Pat. He understood that "effort breeds success" and he lived his life according to his word. In everything he did, Pat had a focused intensity until the goal was reached. He dedicated his time to coaching his children and he developed and presided over a youth basketball league (SMYBB) in his hometown for 15 years that allowed children to play basketball and learn life lessons. He also coached the junior varsity basketball team at San Marcos High School when his sons were students there. He was involved with every aspect of his children's lives and this attention produced a loving relationship with each of them. He was also a patriot in the fullest sense of the word. He loved his country and he defended the constitution with loving intensity. He understood that the Constitution was written by inspired men and the Lord had His hand in creating this free land and its government. He loved to share truth with any that would listen about the Constitution, the Founding Fathers and how living the gospel would save our country. He taught his children to be good citizens and instilled an undying patriotism in each one of them. Once, when one of his sons asked him how he would feel if one of his children were drafted into the military, he said, "I would be so proud to have one of my sons serve this great nation and I would encourage whole hearted service to protect the country that we love." He took pride in being a free man and he lived to allow all others that same blessing of freedom. Pat was also very committed to his faith as he served in many leadership callings for the church, including Sunday School President, Young Men's President, Elder's Quorum President, serving on the High Council, Bishop, Stake Mission President, and 2nd Counselor in the Escondido Stake Presidency. Probably his favorite assignment was serving as an Ordinance Worker in the San Diego Temple. He was known throughout the region for his faith and his love of the Book of Mormon. He preached tirelessly for all to read the Book of Mormon and live by it's teachings. He had an intimate relationship with Christ and had a love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He patterned his life after the Savior and had the focus and faith to live a Christ-like life. Pat's greatest accomplishment and legacy in this life was his undying love for his wife Dyanna. He loved her without reservation and without condition. He lived for her and he sacrificed his needs for hers. He made certain that he showed his 6 sons how to treat women and left no doubt in their minds that he loved their mother. He showed his daughter the way she should expect to be treated through his demonstrations of love for his wife. He was a master teacher and he taught his children daily how to be Disciples of Christ. Pat wrote a family mission statement and motto for his family that sums up who he was and what was important to him: Our family Mission Statement: To follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, To love and support each other. To have patience and respect for each other. To use our time and talents to bless the lives of others. To use good manners, be good sports and build each other up. To have each one take responsibility for making our house a clean, comfortable and heavenly place for all who enter it. It is our ultimate goal to live together forever in the presence of the Lord.
