Kristin Elizabeth Schlief

Kristin was born on 11/13/1963 and passed away suddenly on 09/22/2015. Kristin was a resident of Fallbrook, CA with her dear husband John Quigley. Kristin, though only with us a short time, touched more lives than most. Kristin grew up in Warren, MI and spent her childhood summers in Arcadia, MI. She graduated from Robert S. Tower High School in 1981. She attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She wanted to move to California so she made the choice to join the US Navy. The US Navy provided a lifetime of experiences in amazing places but most importantly how she met her true love, John. They married in Chicago, often referred to by many as the most beautiful wedding they have ever attended. Kristin earned her Masters Degree from the University of Michigan and loved her time living in Saline. Kristin retired from the Navy in 2011 after serving for 25 years. With their dream home in Fallbrook and fur babies Chico and Ninja, Kristin was the happiest she had ever been. She was teaching nursing at California State, loving life's adventures with John, and traveling to visit with friends and family. No one will understand why it was her time at such a young age. We believe in a greater place and that she is with all others we have loved and lost. Taken from a facebook post in 2013, it is a summary of the beautiful and amazingly talented person Kristin was..."Today my beautiful sister Kristin Elizabeth Schlief Quigley (yes we had the Sister Christian song joke) turns 50 years old! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am blessed to have been with her for 43 of them! In 50 years she has teased me (made me suck black olives off her toes from my crib) and loved me (spent $120 of her own money to take me to the Michael Jackson Victory Tour - my first concert) as her baby sister, was an academic leader and had the lead in her high school musicals, toured Europe sharing the gift of music with many, earned her RN, BSN, LPN, (and many many other medical abbreviations/jargon), served our country proudly in the US Navy for 25 years, appointed Commander in the US Navy, ruled dance floors and karaoke machines worldwide, married one of the funniest guys I have ever met John Quigley and had the most beautiful wedding location hands down, ran hospital admins, taught corpsmen at Great Lakes Naval Station, appointed to JACO (not totally sure what that was but it was really cool when she explained it), was part of a commission on chemical warfare, did tours all over the world on the US Mercy, spread kindness and taught Western medicine to countries and places I have NEVER heard of (have you heard of Jolo?), teaches nursing to students at Cal State, has given medical council from 3,000 miles away at any time of day or night for our family, volunteers at her local animal shelter won a TV on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, loved and cared for too many animals to count (even nursed a bird back to health once after sewing it's wing back on), can draw beautiful art even on an etch-a-sketch (hoping she will practice art when she retires), has kept every major cosmetics line, golf course and auto detailer in business ;o), has been a loving Aunt to Madison Hertel and Natalie, has always encouraged me to try harder and be all that I can be (I know that is not the Navy tagline) and most importantly tells me "I am so proud of you" when I need it most. Thanks for 43 years of sisterhood. I am sure I am forgetting something....but may your day be filled with LOVE and HAPPINESS. We love you, Kris! Here's to 50 more!!!!"
