Evelyn Clarice Evans

On Thursday April 23, 2015 at 7:30pm, God called our beloved Evelyn "Clarice" Evans home. Evelyn fondly known as 'Clarice' to her family and many friends was born on April 12, 1928 to Lonnie Lindsey Jr. and Evelyn Robinson Lindsey in West Philadelphia. Raised in the city which she loved, Clarice received her education in the Philadelphia public school system graduating from West Philadelphia High School. She had a number of jobs at an early age but started her formal working career at Jerrold Electronics in Philadelphia for future Governor Milton Shapp as an administrative assistant. After a number of productive years she expanded her career with an opportunity at the legal firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius where she performed as a legal secretary for 18 years prior to her retirement. Even then, Clarice continued to work in a part time capacity in downtown Philadelphia at Gimbels Department store thriving on the excitement and bustle of city life. This is where her love of hats from Cowboy to Sunday's best began. It was during her early years when Clarice met, fell in love and married James R. Evans in June 1950 moving to, and living in the same West Philadelphia home and community for 56 years raising two sons. It was at this time where she also grew with her second family, her church family at St Thomas African Episcopal Church. An active member for over 50 years, Clarice cherished praising and serving God under the current ministry of Father Martini Shaw; the Sisterhood Guild, Visitors ministry, Sheep and Shepherds being her focus and pride. Later in life she transitioned from Philadelphia, PA to San Marcos, CA taking the opportunity to spend her remaining golden years with her two Sons, living in a new community, creating new experiences, new friends, and a second church family at Grace Episcopal Church. There she grew to admire and adore the beautiful mountains, the deep blue ocean along with the fragrant smell of blooming flowers, appreciating each one as God's gift. Those that knew Clarice will remember her as a one whose faith created a zest for life, living every day with love, energy, compassion and tolerance, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. They also knew of her passion for fun, flair for fashion, desire to dance, and craving for just good ole' conversation. Clarice was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend to many. She leave us to cherish her memory: her two devoted sons, Craig and Carlton; future daughter-in-law to Carlton, Tina Williams; grandson, Russell and his wife Kristen, grandson, Jarrell; great-grandsons Aeneus and Torin; nephew and his wife Lonnie and Denise Warfield; great nieces, Lonnise and Whitney Warfield, and a host of dear friends.
