Carrie Ellen Hall

Carrie was born on January 22, 1953 and passed away on January 19, 2014. Carrie was a resident of Escondido, California. She was born in Sacramento, California. She attended Hiram Johnson High School and also attended Sacramento State College. During the early 1970's, to support human rights causes, Carrie participated in a march lead by Caesar Chavez of the farm workers union. After working for the State of California, Carrie relocated to San Diego where her brother, Richard , resided. Carrie started work with the San Diego Sheriff's office in the dispatch center and worked to become a deputy sheriff. After a severe injury suffered while on duty, she transferred to the San Diego County Animal Control office. You may have seen her on Channel 8 with the feature entitled "Dog Days of Summer" where Carrie would show dogs that were available for adoption. Eventually, her career lead her to San Diego County Zoning Enforcement where she spent the remainder of her career serving the citizens of the County in that capacity. Carrie was a frequent sight travelling all around the County inspecting various properties for code enforcement. Carrie retired from public service in 2007 after a career that spanned over 30 years. Carrie loved camping, fishing, gardening, music, animals and playing card games with her husband. Carrie was a very accomplished singer and guitarist, especially in her younger years where she played with many notable artists. She was associated with Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and Barbara Mandrell. One of her friends was Joan Baez. Carrie's guitar strap on her vintage Martin was knitted by one of Willie's daughters. Her fishing skills were legendary as she, somehow, always caught fish when no one else was getting a bite. These skills were acquired from her father, Lenord Hall, who was an avid bass fisherman in the Sacramento foothill area. Her garden was always full of luscious ripe tomatoes and squash which she loved to share with family and friends. She had the legendary "green thumb." Carrie was a real animal lover. Over the years, Carrie had a number of spoiled kitty cats and a few lucky dogs who were pampered by both her and her husband. Carrie was a very generous and loving person who would do anything to help someone in need. As a result, Carrie had a lot of friends who loved her dearly. Carrie is survived by her husband, Marty; her mother, Irene; her brothers Richard and Robert; her step-daughters Melanie and Rebecca; her step-grandchildren Brandon and Ashley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A tribute service will be held at Allen Brothers Mortuary in San Marcos on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
